starting meds on infected infant

I am adopting a 2 yr. old girl who tested HIV+. Her mother died of AIDS while giving birth. At 15 mo., after previously testing negative twice, she tested HIV+. Her virus load was 800,776 and the CD4 was 287. I am working in a foreign country...

I do not take care of pediatric HIV patients but I share your concerns about holding off on therapy. The CD4 ratio is often used to guide therapy in HIV-infected children, but with a very high viral load and marginal CD4 count it makes all the sense... Read more »
