T-cells down but viral load unchanged

Over the past six months my t-cells have dropped from about 300 to 150, but my viral load has remained essentially unchanged at 30-40k. Does this seem correct to you. It seems to me that when t-cells go down the viral load should go up. Also, I can...

CD4 counts typically define the risk of development of opportunistic infections and other complications. By contrast, the viral load is more important in determining the rate of CD4 cell depletion. Hence, yes, a person with a CD4 count less than 200... Read more »

No one should ever make such a decision based on one set of labs, particularly if there is a significant difference like yours. An acute drop in CD4 count as you describe with such a low viral load does not make sense. I would have the CD4 count... Read more »

Viral Load: A Deception

Posted by Anonymous, 1 Reply
Viral load testing is a deceptive practice, as the results are skewed in such a way as to reflect a number of viral units that is far greater than the number of CD4 cell units.

For example: let's assume your viral load results are 100,000 and your... Read more »
