I believe I'm a non-progressor. My lover was diagnosed w/
AIDS in '85. I was not tested until '87 and tested postive at that time w/ a t-cell count at 550 (i smoked back then). I have a viral load below 35,000 usually between 5,000 and 10,000 and my... Read more »

Non progressing HIV with chronic HBV

Doctor,I discovered in the last year that I am HIV positive, the result of exposure from over 15 years ago. My viral load has continued to be under 4000 for the last year and my cd4 at around 650-700 with no drugs. I have been classified a Long Term...

What I normally do is to treat with interferon first for 2 months to sensitize the t cells. Peg will be easier to tolerate, although there is no data yet for HBV. At two months I add lamivudine at 150 twice per day plus famciclovir 500 2-3 times per... Read more »

We have difficulty in predicting exactly who will be a long-term nonprogressor. However, viral load after acute infection is a pretty good predictor of the rate of CD4 cell decline. Hence with a viral load around 50, we can be fairly sure that... Read more »

I am newly diagnosed but have had the disease for 2 years. I've had 2 HIV tests and they both showed HIV in several bands. My CD-4 was 1222 and went down to 1067 following a surgery. My viral load was 52 and has decreased to non-detectable....

Although it is too early to determine whether you are a nonprogressor, those kind of numbers would indicate so. CD4 counts can indeed vary. They can vary during the day, because of other infections, drug use, stress, pregnancy, etc.MH... Read more »

Is my daughter a non progresser?

I have an 9 year old daughter who has HIV. She was adopted at 4 days old. Her HIV was not diagnosed until she was 5, and then it was an exclusionary test for something else. Her viral load is consistantly between 4000 and 6000 and her CD4's...

This terminology can be confusing. In general people who are HIV infected and have normal CD4 counts/percents, low or undetectable viral loads for > 10 years without treatment are considered nonprogressors. A subset of these folks are called... Read more »
