Complete Blood Count (CBC)

The Complete Blood Count (CBC) The most common laboratory test is the complete blood count (CBC). It examines the components of blood, including red and white blood cells and platelets. Recently diagnosed HIV+, CBC normal, waiting for CD4

I started feeling sick about 2-3 weeks ago with what I thought was a bad sinus infection. My fever (99.5 - 102) wouldn't go away after a few days, so I had my CBC done. At the time I did the test, I had been taking Amoxicillin 875mg twice a day...

Dear Dr HolodniyApart from the standard and conclusive HIV antibody tests, can an abnormal Complete Blood Count (CBC) haematology test be indicative of an acute or chronic HIV infection ? If indeed, how does HIV affect the CBC ?...

Blood cell counts are very nonspecific and would not be a good test to determine HIV status. During acute infection, and AIDS, the blood counts can be below normal levels. During HIV infection, a variety of variables including medications and... Read more »

CBC result...what it means?

Dear Dr, what does a low MCH means? Mine was at 25 PG with MCV at 78 FL. What could have affected this and how can I improve on these 2 components? I did find myself getting tired more easily. By the way, I'm not on medication yet. Thank you....

MCH stands for mean corpusular hemoglobin, MCV is the mean corpusular volume-- the former is the amount of hemoglobin in the the red blood cell, the later is the size of the red cell. If both are low, this would suggest that you have... Read more »

ARS/HIV and CBC - ?????

I know that HIV test is needed to tell whether someone is really infected. However, my question is this. If somebody has what he thinks are symptoms of HIV due to a 2.5 month old exposure, would this have any bearing on his CBC (complete blood... Read more »
