I had a (-) HIV test six months ago; why did I need another today?

Hello. I just officially found out today I am pregnant, and I have already taken a preliminary, preconception HIV test six months ago along with other blood work and it came back negative, but I was sent out for another test today. I am confused...

The truth is that if you don't test beyond 3 months, then you are leaving a *significantly* higher risk than if you do. Many people can live with a 1-5% risk of HIV infection and move on. But there is no way that I can believe that a 3 month test... Read more »
