Just a quick comment on my experience calling the CDC helpline - since there seems to be a great deal of negative response to much of the advice they've given people recently.I called them three times over the last week to ask the same question...

Hi,The correct answer was given by CDC operator number one. HIV can be transmitted across mucous membranes and the urethra is indeed lined with a mucous membrane. Consequently, if it comes in contact with infected fluids, HIV transmission can occur.... Read more »
