superinfection with low viral load

What are the latest findings on superinfection? My boyfriend and I are both positive with undetectable viral loads and hight t cell counts. We were wondering if our meds reduce the risk of reinfecting eachother while barebacking....

Hello,While it is true that having a nondetectable viral load decreases the risk of transmitting HIV, the question remains whether it decreases it enough that you don't have to worry. Unfortunately we don't know the answer to that.... Read more »

low T cell count with low viral load

I have a friend who has been HIV pos for 11 years. He is takingh Crixivan & Videx and while his viral load is virtually nilhis T cells are now down to 116. Two years ago his lover died with a similar Tcell count so her is naturally shaken....

What you're describing is quite common. When people start protease inhibitors after their CD4 counts have already become quite low, the CD4 counts may not recover very well. Over time the body looses its ability to regenerate those cells.... Read more »

I've had HIV for around 5 years, maybe longer. I became aware of my status in July 95. I take no antivirals. I get tested every quarter. My VL has ranged from 600 to 7000, currently 3600. CD4's from 196 - 320, currently 252. CD4 %...

I would favor your latter theory. I have a seen a few patients who had the "big hit", followed by relatively stability at quite low CD4 levels and low detectable viral loads. They all ended up on treatment, but we delayed starting by some... Read more »
