Tonsils are lymphoid tissue, so they can be enlarged as part of HIV disease just like any other lymph node can. Lymphoid tissue swelling comes and goes throughout the course of HIV disease, so I can't say whether tonsils would be persistently... Read more »

Tonsillits itself is not associated with HIV, but not everything that causes difficulty swallowing is tonsillitis. This may be due to oral or esophageal candidiasis (thrush), or to other diseases that affect the back of the throat and esophagus in... Read more »

Tonsils are a type of immune/lymphoid tissue. Most HIV+ patients who undergo a tonsillectomy do fine. The gut is lined with lymphoid tissue so removing the tonsils doesn't significantly impact body defenses in general. KH... Read more »
