The symptoms you describe are not typical for acute HIV infection other than the sore throat which can be seen. It is possible that you have contracted an STD such as herpes which can give you urinary symptoms and would not respond to antibiotics.... Read more »

I am confused about this whole white blood cell thing. There are doctors who believe that during acute retroviral syndrome/primary HIV infections that white blood cell and lymphs are low, and others say that they would be high, which is true??...

I have been worried if I was infected with hiv years ago. I recently had blood work done and my red and white blood cell counts were normal. Would it be possible for the counts to be normal if I was hiv positive for several years?...

Dear Dr,I have recently seen a doctor concerning a blood test for high cholesterol. Other blood tests were done and he told me that my white blood cell counts are fine. I have never had unprotected sex, except unprotected oral sex about five months...

A white blood cell count cannot tell you whether you have HIV or not, although sometimes it can be abnormal in ways that suggest HIV infection. If you're worried about HIV, go get an HIV blood test-- that's the only way you'll know... Read more »
