What Is Hepatitis? Hepatitis means an inflammation, or swelling, of the liver. Viruses can cause hepatitis. Alcohol, drugs (including prescription medications), or poisons can also cause hepatitis. So can opportunistic infections such as Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC, see Fact Sheet 514 ) or Cytomegalovirus (CMV, see Fact Sheet 504 ). Hepatitis is a very common disease. My friend has taken the vaccination for Hepatitis B before he starts the treatment. After starting the treatment for four months, his ALT increase from 76 to 195 as he takes D4T, 3TC, NVP. Is this the signal of hepatitis B or C or a drug side...
