HCV viral load and when to start treating

Dr. Dieterich:My viral loads for HCV started at 14,000. Two months later the load was at 55,700. Then four months later it was at 200,000. I have had a biopsy. One doctor thinks on the fibrosis scale I am a 1 to a 2 out of 4. Another doctor...

Your blood counts have nothing to do with treatment. You need treatment now! The biopsy certainly sounds severe enough. There is no reason to wait. If your MD says your white or red counts are too low, then it is easy to fix those with factor... Read more »

It is likely you have chronic HCV infection and your HCV viral load is about average. You have a slightly elevated AFP level, and this could be associated with liver inflammation or liver cancer caused by HCV. You need to be evaluated by a liver... Read more »

Does HIV/HCV Viral Load Affect Likelihood of Transmission to Others?

I'm a 29yo severe hemophiliac co-infected with HIV & HCV since the early 80's. I was also HBV infected, but cleared the disease on my own years ago. I've been on Epivir & Zerit since 8-96 and a protease inhibitor (currently...

The likelihood of transmission of HIV is probably related to the viral load in your blood. However, there is a small chance that there may be HIV in the semen regardless of no viral load in the blood. There are people who are washing semen now to... Read more »

You don't indicate which virus you are talking about (HIV or HCV), and if HIV viral load, what your respective CD4 count and CD4 percents are. So it is difficult to answer directly. If those are HIV viral load results they are fairly high, but... Read more »

cd4 or viral load

Posted by Lilly, 2 Replies
When starting to think about treatment, does either counts (cd4s or viral load) play a bigger role? My viral load has recently dropped, but so has my cd4's. My counts are all still at a comfortable level for me with no meds, but at the clinic... Read more »

Viral Load: A Deception

Posted by Anonymous, 1 Reply
Viral load testing is a deceptive practice, as the results are skewed in such a way as to reflect a number of viral units that is far greater than the number of CD4 cell units.

For example: let's assume your viral load results are 100,000 and your... Read more »
