Would a doctor perscribe Amoxycillin to clear thrust. Is Amoxycillin effective at clearing up a mild case of thrush....

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic and does not treat thrush. Thrush needs to be treated with an antifungal medicine such as nystatin, clotrimazole, fluconazole. Sometimes thrush can clear up on its own. This is more likely to happen if someone starts HIV... Read more »

With HIV infection, it depends on the degree of immune suppression. It usually does not go away on it's own. The lower the CD4 count, the higher the likelihood it can spread. It can last for days to weeks.... Read more »

If a person had a mild to moderate case of thrush, wouldn't you expect the infection to get progressively worse withouttreatment? And would the infection present itself off and on instead of on a daily basis? Thanks for your response....

The answer to this question depends on a number of variables, but generally speaking, if the underlying condition which has played a part in a person developing thrush has not changed, then I would not expect the thrush to clear without antifungal... Read more »

I had oral thrush end of February this year and it took a few weeks to get rid of (due to antibiotics). My doctor tested me for HIV and it was negative after 32 days. I left the country shortly after and my doctor said that the thrush had cleared... Read more »
