Difference between RNA-PCR and RNA-bDNA tests?
Posted by Anonymous, 1 Reply
Does anybody know the difference between RNA-PCR and RNA-bDNA tests? Are these tests accurate? Any false negative or false positive results? Are they worth taking to evaluate early HIV infection when possible early HIV infection symptoms are present? I... Read more » See,I told you HIV replicates a cell's DNA TO RNA

The below is plagerized from Gallant ( the guru!)I know that the present antiretroviral medications do not actually kill the virus. However, if the medications inhibit the virus from reproducing, doesn't the virus die by... Read more » PCR DNA or RNA

Quantitative PCR RNA is the viral load test for HIV-1 only, right ?For Qualitative PCR DNA for HIV-1 and HIV-2, the report format would be 'detectable' or 'not detectable', right ?..or/and would 'strain' of the hiv founded would be reported ? HIV RNA Test/HIV DNA PCR TestDr Brook, to one of your answers dated 28 October 2001, DNA PCR Test while Pregnant you said that the HIV RNA test is more sensitive than the HIV DNA PCR test for detecting early infection if you are not taking antiretrovirals. Now does this mean...Response from Brooks Jackson, M.D.
Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine
Once an adult individual is infected with HIV and is antibody positive, the use of antiretrovirals for treatment will not cause the ELISA test for HIV antibody to become negative. BJ...

HIV RNA Quantification Vrs DNA PCR testIs an HIV RNA Quantification result of <50 copies as definitive as the "DNA PCR test" in ruling out HIV 6 weeks after possible exposure. Antibodies are NEG.Becasue of possible ARS, antibodies were also done at 14 weeks, along with an...Response from Mark Holodniy, M.D., F.A.C.P., C.I.C.

A RNA test and DNA test during acute infection will have about equal positivity. Given the number, type, and interval of tests you have had performed, you do not have HIV infection.MH...

HIV RNA/DNADr. Holodniy, I am curious. HIV-1 RNA or DNA sequence, does it resemble any other viruses, or specific cell type especially from humans. False positives in PCR tests, can it be due to RNA/DNA similarity at certain portions of the sequence. And PCR...Response from Mark Holodniy, M.D., F.A.C.P., C.I.C.
Stanford University, School of Medicine
The virus is very unlike other viruses. HIV-2 has about 60% of it's sequence the same as HIV-1. False positives are most likely due to operator/technical issues and not sequence homology to other pieces of DNA....

DNA PCR vs. RNA PCR in HIV+ people1. If I tested positive on ELISA and undetectable on viral load (RNA PCR till 15 copies) would DNA PCR tell me, how many of my cells are infected per mililiter or only confirm the infection. Because I thought that the DNA PCR also says how many...Response from Mark Holodniy, M.D., F.A.C.P., C.I.C.
