Can drugs cure a virus

I am wondering if current drugs used to treat "HIV disease", can ever be modified to cure a person of the virus. Are there any cases in medical history where drugs have cured viruses? Or have they only been eradicated by vaccines?THX...

Very interesting read while he went through some hardships doing this it sounds like the opening of a possible new door to treatment. The guy hasn't been on Meds for 600 days after a bone marrow transplant.
