What Is Combivir? Combivir is a pill that contains two drugs used as part of antiretroviral therapy (ART): zidovudine (Retrovir, AZT) and lamivudine (Epivir, 3TC). Combivir is manufactured by ViiV Healthcare. Generic versions have been tentatively approved under PEPFAR (see Fact Sheet 475 ). Lamivudine is also known as 3TC. In general I believe that if someone is on a good regimen that is working and well tolerated there is little reason to change. The one reason in this case to consider a modification of your therapy is the development of potential toxicity.... Read more »

Pancreatitis due to your current regimen is not very common. If you changed meds I would not be sure that the next regimen would be any better/safer. AZT can cause lingering GI complaints in some patients so a switch to abacavir or tenofovir might... Read more »
