Floaters are just cellular debris inside the eye. Many people get them with aging, so they are not specific to CMV. Floaters are common in CMV disease because of the inflammation the infection causes, but you wouldn't get CMV disease as a... Read more »

Dr. FeinbergSince I asked this question last it has not been answered and i talked to an optimoligist. I might have been infectedc1/98 but never got tested because I was told I was at very low risk and testing was not nesasary with my exposure....

This is normal. It is highly unlikely that someone would get HIV-associated CMV retinitis without any other intervening symptoms or problems. Floaters are common and not specific for CMV disease, although they can be an indication of CMV as well... Read more »

Your eye doctor is correct-- floaters happen to HIV- people and are more likely to occur as you get older. It may go away by itself or at least become less bothersome once the reassurance that this is not CMV really sinks in. Avoiding inversions... Read more »
