Is it really true HIV+ people can live normal life spans? How quickly do they need to be treated?

I will start by admitting my paranoia. I'm terrified to be tested for HIV. I am 30 years old and I have been happily married for 5 years. I have been sexually active since the age 16 and have not always practiced safe sex. Although I have...

This is not really a hepatitis question. However, the treatment of HIV now is much like diabetes or hypertension. If treated appropriately, and reasonably early the expectation is that people should live almost normal life spans. If you are worried... Read more »

Hello, I have just been started on HAART (combivir/efavirenz) and my CD4 count last week was 4. What can I reasonably expect to be able to build up my cd4 count? 100? 200? 300? And how long can that take? 1 year? 2 years? And can I still live a...

200 is definitely possible and anything higher will be a gift. The lower the CD4 you start with, the lower the maximum you can achieve and the longer it may take to get there. You can still live a normal life. The higher your count above 200, the... Read more »

CAN I LIVE A NORMAL LIFE WITH HCV/23 year old begging for the truth

Hey Docter, I am 23 years old and have just been infected with Hep C by a tatoo needle. I am in great shape and love to work out and play sports, is my life over or can I live a normal life. If I eat clean, don't drink or do drugs and...

You are going to do just fine.1. Hepatitis C does NOT cause disease in everyone. 2. If you were just infected in the last two to three months, I would get your virus tested again to see if it cleared. If not you can be treated immediately and your... Read more »

After Atripla, a Normal Life With HIV

It was Ash Wednesday 2007 when I got my HIV test results from my primary doctor. He said to me, "I am sorry, but your HIV test came back positive, this does not mean you are really positive, so I am sending you to a specialist." My life was... Read more »
