Mexico: Condom Machines Planned in Schools

Condom machines would be installed in secondary schools in poor areas of Mexico under a plan proffered by the Social Development Ministry. A study commissioned by the ministry found that 15 percent of adolescent girls in economically deprived areas were pregnant. Mexico does not calculate national teen pregnancy figures. The proposal, which would have to be approved by the Education Ministry, is expected to face strong opposition from parents and church officials in the largely Roman Catholic nation.
