Ireland: Blood Victims Seek More Compensation
March 18, 2002 Hemophiliacs in Ireland who were infected with HIV by blood products provided by state-run health services in the 1980s have begun a legal case to overturn a 1991 compensation package and get more reparations. About three years ago, the government said the $15-million package was inadequate and promised new legislation. More than 100 people were infected through the contaminated products, and 64 have died of AIDS-related illnesses.
