The United Nations beginning today is scheduled to host a six-day workshop to provide African government officials with information to "better understand the demographic aspects" of HIV/AIDS, the United Nations News Service reports. The workshop, which will be held at the U.N. headquarters in New York City, will feature presentations by experts and discussions between attendees and experts on other aspects of HIV/AIDS. Participants at the workshop will also examine ways to improve communication pertaining to HIV/AIDS, particularly via the mass media; discuss the social and economic aspects of the disease; and address HIV/AIDS-related policies and programs. Government officials from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Namibia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland and Uganda are expected to attend the conference, the United Nations News Service reports (United Nations News Service, 9/5).
