Nebraska: For AIDS Agency Chief, It's Personal

The Nebraska AIDS Project recently announced Sharon Renter as its new executive director. Renter, who joins NAP Sept. 15, currently manages seven HIV/AIDS and STD programs at the Wyoming Department of Health, where she has worked since 2001. She is also an executive board member for the National Alliance for State and Territorial AIDS Directors. Prior to 2001, Renter worked nine years in the Nebraska Health and Human Services System's HIV/AIDS program. Renter first became involved with HIV prevention and care after learning her husband contracted HIV from a hemophilia treatment, according to WDH's Web site. He died in 1999 after living with HIV for 19 years. NAP is the sole community-based AIDS service organization in Nebraska, serving the whole state and 11 counties in southwest Iowa and part of eastern Wyoming. Renter succeeds Tim Sullivan, NAP's executive director from 2002 to February.
