The Latino Coalition for a Healthy California has reported that Hispanic Women in California are less likely to get early testing for HIV, breast and cervical cancers, and high blood pressure. The agency noted that the women have less access to health care, since many of the women do not receive health coverage through their employment.
CoverageAccording to the report, less than half the Hispanic women in California have health care coverage. They also tend to under use prenatal care services, which can offer a chance for tuberculosis, gonorrhea, and HIV screening.
ImmigrantsWhile undocumented immigrants are eligible for Medi-Cal coverage, many have been afraid to use the services since the passage of welfare reform and Proposition 187, according to the Community Clinic Association in Los Angeles County.
