Illinois TB Cases Down for the Sixth Straight YearMarch 25, 2003 Tuberculosis cases in Illinois fell to 680 last year, hitting a record low for the sixth straight year, the Department of Public Health announced Monday. The previous record low was 707 cases in 2001. Cases dropped below 1,000 for the first time in 1997, when they fell to 974, establishing a trend that has continued each year since. Chicago accounted for 382 TB cases in 2002, up from 378 in 2001. In Cook County, including Chicago and the five surrounding counties, there were 601 cases in 2002, compared with 617 in 2001.
