Oklahoma: State Senator Supports Hepatitis C Education

May 6, 2003

Sen. Angela Monson (D-Oklahoma City) hopes a bill signed into law by Gov. Brad Henry will educate Oklahomans about hepatitis C. "Former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop has called hepatitis C a worse threat to public health in America than HIV," said Monson. "Yet millions of Americans don't know anything about it." The bill creates a task force to find ways to educate the public about the disease, which is the 10th leading cause of death among U.S. adults.
