The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston ordered a recall of cadaver body parts sent to research institutions around the country because they might carry HIV or other infections. The recall was ordered because unpreserved remains might not have been properly tested for hepatitis and HIV before they were shipped. The university said there was a chance the parts, including feet, knees and elbows, have been used in tissue transplants. The parts are used primarily to train doctors in surgical techniques.
