CDC Selects Hawaii TB Program for New Research

October 24, 2002

The Hawaii Department of Health's Tuberculosis Control Program has been awarded a 10-year contract by the CDC to participate in the TB Epidemiological Studies Consortium, health officials announced Wednesday. The contract amounts to $1.2 million for Hawaii's TB program, and the figure will increase based on research projects done locally, the officials said. Dr. Jessie Wing, chief of the Hawaii Tuberculosis Control Program, said that as a member of the consortium, Hawaii will be able to participate in cutting edge research. In all, 22 sites -- including academic institutions, and US and Canadian state and county health departments -- were selected for the program.
