Rainy AIDS Walk Attracts 1,000 With Poetry, Music at University of Pittsburgh

June 13, 2003

The 2003 AIDS Walk participants braved rain and mud at the University of Pittsburgh Saturday on AIDS Walk and Community Day but fell about $100,000 short of their $200,000 goal. The Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force celebrated its ninth annual AIDS Walk and its first annual Community Day with red balloons shaped like AIDS ribbons. The AIDS Walk is the signature fundraising event of the year to support PATF's services, according to Phil Parr, the group's board president. Gina Focareta, communications director for PATF, blamed the low turnout on Saturday's bad weather.
