Romania to Receive Some US$40 Million for HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis Programs
April 21, 2004 Romania will receive some $40 million from the UN's Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, authorities announced Tuesday. The health ministry said it will coordinate 61 programs fighting AIDS in the next two years. Some $21.8 million will be spent on state- and nongovernmental organization-run programs focusing on HIV prevention and surveillance and patient assistance. New clinics will be started, and some 2,000 doctors working with HIV patients will be trained. Some 20 programs fighting TB will share $16.8 million.
