Bush-Cheney Administration Threatens Health of LGBT, HIV-Positive AmericansGay Men's Health Crisis Warns of Public Health and Human Rights Impacts
December 22, 2008 New York, NY -- Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) expressed outrage at a new rule issued by the Department of Health and Human Services on December 18 that allows health care providers to refuse critical healthcare services and information based on moral beliefs. This not only threatens reproductive health services such as abortion and contraception, it also threatens basic healthcare for people and groups most at risk for HIV, including people living with HIV/AIDS, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) groups. "This 11th hour Bush-Cheney Administration rule endangers reproductive health, exacerbates the HIV/AIDS epidemic and jeopardizes basic healthcare for LGBT people, substance users, undocumented immigrants, people having sex outside of heterosexual marriage, and other groups that could evoke moral objection," said Marjorie Hill, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Gay Men's Health Crisis. "We call on Congress and the Obama-Biden Administration to rescind this draconian rule, as expeditiously, which would drastically undermine public health, especially for communities most at risk for HIV/AIDS." The December 18 news is a final rule, even after receiving 200,000 comments in opposition. This article was provided by Gay Men's Health Crisis.

Sat., Feb. 21, 2009 at 1:59 pm EST This is pure hate. I am a christian, gay, and hiv +, My roommate and I both work in health care and see this as "Do no harm only if the pt. has the same beliefs as you" This will result in many costly law suits and many lives ruined or ended. The Bush Adm. should be ashamed of them selves, for this and many other things, and other christians should be outraged. You should love thy neighbor, not love thy neighbor only if they agree with every thing you do!

Wed., Jan. 14, 2009 at 9:53 pm EST I will be the proud new owner of any medical facility that ever tries to deny me or any loved one critical care based on their personal likes or dislikes or beliefs, no matter what they call it. This goes COMPLETELY against the Hippocratic Oathhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippocratic_Oath For this ignorant "rule" of healthcare providers, for SURE means that they would not be functioning in the BEST interest of the patient.
