Report Examines Developments at XVII International AIDS Conference

"AIDS 2008 Impact Report: From Evidence to Action (.pdf)," International AIDS Society: The report examines developments reported at the XVII International AIDS Conference, which was held in August in Mexico City. These developments include an increased focus on basic science and innate immunity; how efforts to increase antiretroviral access are being hindered by coinfections, a lack of infrastructure, and differential access between adults and children; clinics trials; prevention efforts that combine several concurrent strategies to address the structural, behavioral and biomedical factors of HIV vulnerability; the effect of antiretrovirals on curbing HIV transmission; health system strengthening; and human rights ("AIDS 2008 Impact Report: From Evidence to Action," International AIDS Society, December 2008).
