22,000 Moroccans Live With HIV: OfficialNovember 7, 2008 About 22,000 Moroccans were HIV-positive in 2007, Health Minister Yasmina Baddou told the House of Representatives on Thursday in Rabat. The government's 2007-2011 AIDS response plan calls for enlarging prevention programs and administering 150,000 HIV tests by 2011; offering adequate treatment to those infected; and establishing an autonomous institution to coordinate AIDS programs. Ahmed Douraidi, coordinator of the Association to Fight AIDS, noted that the response must include confronting the silence and stigma that surround the disease. About 40 percent of the 22,000 HIV patients are women, the figures show, and 2.4 percent are sex workers.
