European Union to Fund Anti-AIDS Program in Nicaragua
July 22, 2008 The European Union will take the lead role in funding a new anti-AIDS effort in Nicaragua, an EU representative announced Monday. The campaign is a joint effort of the EU and Italian and Nicaraguan non-governmental organizations, which will respectively contribute 75 percent, 15 percent, and 10 percent of the three-year program’s €1.9 million (U.S. $3.02 million) cost. The outreach will operate in 23 municipalities and will particularly target teenagers and young people, according to the EU statement.
