California: Community Theater Troupe Confronts Taboo Subject of AIDS, Homosexuality

This weekend is the last chance to see the original work "Mama at Twilight: Death by Love," a play performed by the Lower Bottom Playaz, a West Oakland-based amateur theater troupe. The play tackles the taboo subjects of HIV/AIDS and homosexuality among African Americans. The outdoor Sister Thea Bowman Theater is located at 920 Peralta St. in Oakland; show times are 8 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, telephone 510-835-8683.
