Florida: March Aims to Call Attention to the Impact of HIV/AIDS on the Black Community
February 5, 2008 A community march and other events are scheduled to take place in Miami today to call out the epidemic’s impact on the black community. Related events in the coming weeks include a Red Ribbon Motorcycle Ride, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 17 at El Palacio Hotel, 16805 NW 12th Ave., and a Health and Prosperity Campaign from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the Hosanna Community Foundation, 2171 NW 56th St. “I encourage everyone to make Feb. 7 the day you get educated about HIV and a day when you talk to others, your family members, your friends, and your partners about HIV,” said Dr. Kevin Fenton, director of CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention. CDC has sponsored National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day since 2001.
