Tennessee: Sites Will Offer Free HIV Testing

Several events are planned around Memphis on Thursday to mark National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The Shelby County Coalition to Eliminate Syphilis will offer free testing for HIV and syphilis, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Educational and Cultural Center 620 S. Lauderdale. Free HIV testing will be conducted all day beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew AME Church Community Life Center, 1472 Mississippi; an open microphone event devoted to the epidemic begins at 7 p.m. Everyone undergoing HIV testing will receive a free safe sex kit at Planned Parenthood of Greater Memphis, 1407 Union, Ste. 300; testing is offered from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also, free HIV testing will be available from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 1048 S. Bellevue.
