New York: July 28 AIDS Walk AnnouncedJune 27, 2007 Representatives of civil, religious, and health groups recently announced plans to hold a walk on July 28 in Buffalo to raise awareness of AIDS and other health issues. "We need to improve the total health and well-being of the community," said Barbara Franklin, a member of the medical committee of the Black Leadership Commission on AIDS in Buffalo. At a news conference outside Erie County Medical Center, the groups noted that African Americans account for 36.6 percent of Buffalo's population but 53.9 percent of its AIDS cases. The 10-K Walk for Life and Posterity, which will begin at Delaware Park, is seeking corporate and individual sponsors, said Donna Chapman, coordinator; interested parties can telephone 716-898-3771 for more information. Officials also announced that a state grant will allow Group Ministries to begin offering free HIV tests daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 1325 Jefferson Ave. Back to other news for June 2007 Buffalo News 6.1.2007; Henry L.
