Report Examines Civil Society Involvement in HIV/AIDS Policies, Programs

Civil Society Perspectives on HIV/AIDS Policy," Open Society Institute: The report found that success against HIV/AIDS depends on the support of civil society and the people who are most affected by the disease. It is based on two years of research in Nicaragua, Senegal, Ukraine, the U.S. and Vietnam and examined government progress in providing access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care. The report found that wealthy and developing countries often exclude marginalized groups, which often have problems accessing HIV/AIDS-related programs, from policy discussions. It also provided recommendations on how to better involve civil society in the design and implementation of HIV/AIDS programs and policies (OSI release, 6/26).
