In a statement today, the Los Angeles-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation said it is working with the Cambodian government to provide free antiretrovirals (ARVs) for HIV/AIDS patients. Up to 3,000 patients will benefit from the program in the coming five years, AHF said. At present, 10,537 Cambodians are on ARVs, but another 20,000 urgently need treatment. An estimated 123,100 people among Cambodia's population of 14 million have HIV/AIDS. On Thursday, officials from AHF and Cambodia's Health Ministry opened a new clinic in Kampong Thom province; another is scheduled to open Saturday in Phnom Penh. AHF operates free clinics in the United States, Africa, Central America, and other locations in Asia.
