Medicare and Part DPart B Premium Payments to Be Cut From California's Medi-Cal, Affecting Many Living With HIV
November 3, 2008 The California state budget for FY 2009/2010 included a provision that requires elimination of payment of Medicare Part B premium payments for all Californians who have Medicare and Medi-Cal with a share of cost of over $500 per month. Many but not all people with HIV living in California who have both Medicare and Medi-Cal with a share of cost will be affected by this cut. Medicare Part B premiums are approximately $96 per month and this amount will be taken out of the December Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) checks. The following fact sheet has been produced by Julie Cross for the Los Angeles County Commission on HIV and answers some frequently asked questions about this change. Medi-Cal services announced after the fact sheet was produced that the first premium payment will be taken from December SSDI checks, not November as stated in the fact sheet.
