Barbara Garrison, AIDS Activist, Dead at 45 from AIDS Complications
May 28, 2002 Barbara Garrison, an AIDS activist and former blood technician who said she contracted the virus from a needle accident while drawing blood, has died from complications of AIDS. She was 45. Garrison, a Stevensville, Mich., resident, died Monday at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. She said the needle accident happened in May 1994 and she was diagnosed as HIV-positive in December 1995. She became involved with the Michigan Persons Living with AIDS Task Force and at the time of her death headed the group's membership and management committee. Her survivors include her husband, Robert, and two stepchildren who live in Florida.
