Iowa: Dahlberg Sentenced to Probation
March 31, 2003 Aaron Dahlberg, 25, was sentenced Friday in Iowa City, Iowa, to three years probation for willful injury, after originally facing up to 25 years in prison for criminal transmission of HIV. He was accused of lying to an Iowa City man about his HIV status before they had consensual sex twice on March 31, 2000. Dahlberg entered an Alford plea in January to willful injury -- a lesser charge than criminal transmission -- that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. An Alford plea means he did not admit to the details of the charge but agrees a jury would likely find him guilty. District Judge Patrick Grady suspended Dahlberg's prison sentence, suspended a $750 fine, and ordered Dahlberg to pay $1,346 in victim restitution.
