Ohio: HIV Agency Finally Gets State Money

Despite a six-week delay in the delivery of federal funds, Cincinnati-based STOP AIDS was able to provide uninterrupted care to its 1,000 clients, said Executive Director Amy McMahon. The issue was resolved last week when the organization received $170,000 from the Ohio Department of Health, which disburses dollars from the federal Ryan White HIV/AIDS program.

"We are relieved on behalf of our clients," said McMahon, who credited employees for agreeing to defer their paychecks during the lag. Reserve funds were also tapped to cover the shortfall.

STOP AIDS has 26 employees and an annual budget of $1.7 million, of which nearly $719,000 comes from Ryan White. It has about 1,000 clients and each year conducts 3,000 HIV tests and provides education services to about 20,000 people.
