Budget Cuts Affect California Nonprofit

August 26, 2009

Sierra HOPE (Health Opportunities, Programs and Education), an Angels Camp, Calif.-based nonprofit that "provides home visits, transportation and other services to those suffering from AIDS," has felt the impact of state and federal budget cuts, the Sonora Union Democrat reports. The organization, which serves residents in Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, has seen one-third of its budget cut in the current fiscal year, Jerry Cadotte, Sierra HOPE director, said. "The state cuts largely came via the governor's line-item veto power earlier this year," the article states (Cook, 8/25).
