Marin County, Calif., HIV/AIDS Programs Impacted by Cuts to Public, Private Funding

A "leading" nonprofit in Marin County, Calif., that provides HIV education and prevention services and a needle exchange program "is getting hit with funding cuts from both the state of California and the Marin Community Foundation that total more than 18 percent of the nonprofit's annual budget," the Contra Costa Times reports. According to the Times, the Marin AIDS Project will not receive any funds for prevention and education this fiscal year from the state. "Also, the Marin AIDS Project's funding from the Marin Community Foundation was cut by $50,000 to $110,000 in 2009-10. The foundation has informed the Marin AIDS Project, which has an annual budget of $985,000, that it will give it no money in future years," the article states  (Halstead, 8/4).
