Illinois: University of Chicago to Close Dentistry Clinic That Treats AIDS and HIV PatientsDecember 26, 2007 A University of Illinois at Chicago dental clinic that serves HIV/AIDS patients will close in March, officials from the school said. According to Dean Bruce Graham, state funding for the Special Patient Care Clinic has declined in the past five years, forcing the school to make cuts to staff and teaching positions. The clinic receives federal funding that is administered through the city's public health department. Operated by the school's College of Dentistry since 1989, SPCC is located on Chicago's South Side. Over the past year, it has served nearly 1,700 patients. Graham said all patients can continue to seek medical care at other University of Chicago clinics.
