Burmese and Vietnamese refugees living with HIV in the Alameda County, Calif., area can now access care at the Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center's new Oakland office. The new facility offers HIV case management, including referrals to psychotherapy and mental health counseling, primary care, treatment advocacy and education, support groups and interpreters for HIV-positive political and economic refugees from Burma and Vietnam. The center currently is helping two dozen refugees. The Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center received a two-year $200,000 grant from the California Endowment to expand services to Vietnamese and Burmese refugees.
