Springfield, Mass., HIV/AIDS Specialist Anne Burnett Morris Dead at Age 51

Dr. Anne Burnett Morris, an expert in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, died at age 51 on Aug. 6 of an apparent heart attack, the Boston Globe reports. Morris had a clinical practice in Springfield, Mass., and was associate research director and principal investigator of the Western Massachusetts office of the Community Research Initiative of New England. Morris had a particular interest in the treatment of HIV-positive Latinas and pregnant women. In July, she presented a paper on the use of antiretroviral drugs during pregnancy at the 3rd International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Pathogenesis and Treatment in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. "She was a supreme caregiver involved in state-of-the-art treatment," Julie Marston, executive director of CRI, said. Born in Arlington, Va., and raised in Atlanta, Morris graduated from Emory University and the Medical College of Georgia (Long, Boston Globe, 8/16).
