Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS Supports Coalitions; Analysis on Generic Drugs; Fact Sheet on Federal AIDS Spending

  • "GBC National Connections," Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS: The program aims to support national business coalitions that meet five criteria associated with effective public-private partnerships related to combating HIV/AIDS. The five criteria include having memberships with representation from both multinational and national companies, having a dedicated secretariat, presenting a clear plan with measurable goals, demonstrating accountability and demonstrating a commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS (GBC release, 2/23).

  • "Generic HIV Drugs -- Enlightened Policy for Global Health," New England Journal of Medicine: Dr. Mark Wainberg, director of the AIDS Centre at the Jewish General Hospital at McGill University in Montreal, writes about the need for world leaders to accept "lesser [bioequivalence] standards ... in the short term" for the distribution of generic antiretroviral drugs to developing countries "with the understanding that efforts will be made to prove the bioequivalence of generic and brand-name products as soon as possible" (Wainberg, New England Journal of Medicine, 2/24).

  • "U.S. Federal Funding for HIV/AIDS: The FY 2006 Budget Request," Kaiser Family Foundation: The fact sheet about federal funding for HIV/AIDS programs in President Bush's fiscal year 2006 budget request includes an overview of the total federal budget request for programs as well as key highlights of domestic and international allocation requests (Kaiser Family Foundation fact sheet, February 2005).
