Publication Examines Barriers to Developing Successful HIV Vaccine; Fact Sheet on African Americans, AIDS Updated

• "Speeding the Manufacture of an HIV Vaccine: Policy Issues and Options": International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, January 2005: The publication examines the limited access to bioprocess engineering and clinical lots production abilities and how these shortages negatively affect the development of HIV vaccine candidates. The publication also explains the public policy actions that could be taken to improve capacity shortfalls, as well as the scientific and financial risks involved with vaccine research that likely will create barriers to investments in manufacturing facilities (IAVI release, 2/1).

• "Fact Sheet on African Americans and HIV/AIDS," Kaiser Family Foundation: The updated fact sheet highlights key statistics and trends, provides information on the epidemic's impact on African-American women and young people and provides data about access to care and use of health care systems by HIV-positive African Americans. Kaiser Family Foundation also has released an updated "Fact Sheet on HIV/AIDS and Latinos in the U.S." (Kaiser Family Foundation release, 2/2).
