Former President Clinton this week will begin a weeklong tour of six African countries to promote the work of his foundation, which helps governments design and implement HIV/AIDS treatment programs, paying special attention to children, rural areas and drug access, AFP/Yahoo! News reports. Clinton will visit Mozambique, Lesotho, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya and Rwanda and meet with political and religious leaders to "reinvigorate political will" in combating HIV/AIDS, Ira Magaziner, head of the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative, said. In Tanzania, Clinton will visit the predominantly Muslim island of Zanzibar, where stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS is widespread. In Kenya, he will meet with President Mwai Kibaki and launch an initiative to combat HIV/AIDS among children. Clinton's trip comes on the heels of first lady Laura Bush's tour of South Africa, Tanzania and Rwanda highlighting programs funded under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (AFP/Yahoo!
